Which AI Tool Is Right for Your Marketing? A Plain-English Guide for Irish Business Owners

Which AI Tool should you use for marketing - ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, CoPilot

There are now five major AI tools that most Irish business owners will encounter: ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. If you have tried more than one, you have probably noticed they feel quite different — not just in design, but in how they think, what they do well and where they fall short.

The problem is that most AI comparison articles are written for tech enthusiasts or developers. Not for business owners who need to know one thing: which tool should I use for which marketing job, and is it worth the subscription?

This article gives you the plain-English version. I use all five regularly and recommend different ones to clients for different tasks. I will tell you exactly what each tool does well for marketing, where it will let you down and when the paid plan is genuinely worth it.

One thing to say upfront: there is no single winner. The businesses getting the best results from AI in 2026 are not loyal to one tool. They are strategic about which one they reach for depending on the task.

Why Your Choice of AI Tool Actually Matters

This is not a question of personal preference. The AI tool you use affects:

  • The quality and consistency of the content you produce
  • Whether your business appears in AI-generated search results
  • How accurately AI tools describe your business to potential customers
  • How much time your team actually saves versus how much time it spends fixing outputs
  • Whether you are paying €20 per month for capability you never use

That last point matters more than people realise. All five tools have paid tiers priced at roughly €17–€20 per month. Subscribing to the wrong tool for your workflow is money out the window. More importantly, subscribing to the right tool and using it properly is one of the highest-value investments a small marketing team can make right now.

There is also a commercial dimension that goes beyond internal productivity. The AI tools reviewed here are the same platforms your potential customers use to research suppliers, compare services and decide who to contact. Understanding how each one works is not just about your team’s output — it is about how your business appears in the answers those tools give to buyers.

01 | ChatGPT

The all-rounder — still the most widely used AI tool in the world

ChatGPT is where most people started with AI and it remains the dominant tool by a wide margin. In early 2026, ChatGPT holds around 68% of global AI chatbot usage and 900 million weekly users. It became the number one most-expensed software tool by business transaction volume in 2026 — which tells you something about how embedded it has become across organisations of every size.

ChatGPT Plus (around €20 per month) gives access to the latest GPT model, image generation via DALL·E, web search, a Canvas editor for co-editing documents with the AI, and voice mode. The free tier remains useful but noticeably limited on volume.

✓  Pros for marketers

  • Genuinely versatile — writing, brainstorming, image generation, data analysis and research all in one interface
  • Canvas editor makes iterative content work efficient — co-edit a blog post or campaign brief side by side with the AI
  • Excellent for social media content, email campaigns, ad copy and creative brainstorming sessions
  • Largest ecosystem of third-party integrations and plugins of any AI tool available
  • Handles long, complex prompts well and rarely loses track of the conversation context
  • Image generation built in — useful for quick marketing visuals without needing a separate design tool

✗  Cons for marketers

  • Can sound generic without precise prompting — often produces competent but unmemorable content by default
  • Web citations are not always clearly displayed — confident-sounding answers sometimes need independent fact-checking
  • Free tier message limits frustrate regular users quickly — the paid plan is necessary for daily professional use
  • ChatGPT Pro at €200 per month is a significant jump if you need truly unlimited access to the most powerful model

★  Best used for

  • Social media content — generating multiple posts from a single article or brief
  • Ad copy and headline variations — testing different angles and calls to action quickly
  • Email marketing drafts — especially when you need multiple versions in different tones
  • Campaign brainstorming, naming, positioning and content ideation
  • Quick marketing visuals when a designer is not immediately available
  • Repurposing existing content across different formats and channels

AI search visibility note: ChatGPT is the platform your customers are most likely to use when researching suppliers. Getting cited here carries the highest commercial value. ChatGPT leans heavily on directory listings and structured website content — clear service pages, FAQ sections and specific business descriptions — when generating answers about businesses.

02 | Claude

The quality writer — the tool serious content creators reach for first

Claude is developed by Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI researchers with a strong focus on reliable, well-reasoned AI behaviour. It has built a devoted following among professional writers, strategists and marketers who care about output quality over novelty.

Claude Pro (around €20 per month) gives access to Opus 4.6 — the current top model — as well as Sonnet 4.6 for faster everyday tasks. The context window is among the largest available, meaning it can handle entire brand guides, multiple reference documents and extended conversations without losing coherence. Claude’s Projects feature allows persistent memory across sessions — store your brand voice, style guide and service descriptions once and use them every time.

✓  Pros for marketers

  • Produces the most natural, nuanced long-form writing of any tool — blog posts, proposals and case studies read like a thoughtful human wrote them
  • Genuinely preserves your existing tone — ask it to rewrite without changing your voice, and it actually manages it
  • Very large context window — feed it your full brand guidelines, previous articles and reference documents and it uses them consistently throughout
  • Strong at structured content: detailed FAQs, comparison articles, service page copy and long-form buyer guides
  • More transparent about uncertainty — tends to flag what it does not know rather than confidently fabricating information
  • Projects feature stores your brand context persistently across conversations — the time savings compound over weeks of use

✗  Cons for marketers

  • No image generation — if visuals are part of your workflow you need a separate tool
  • Web search is available but less seamlessly integrated than Perplexity or Gemini for real-time research tasks
  • Less name recognition among non-marketing colleagues, which can create friction when recommending it to teams
  • Occasionally cautious — sometimes declines requests that are entirely reasonable, which can disrupt workflow

★  Best used for

  • Blog posts and long-form content where quality, originality and tone consistency matter
  • Website copy — service pages, about pages, case study write-ups
  • Proposals, pitch documents and strategic marketing reports
  • Editing and improving existing content without stripping out your personality
  • Creating detailed FAQs and buyer guides (among the highest-value content for AI citation visibility)
  • Brand documents, style guides and campaign briefs

AI search visibility note: Claude is growing rapidly as an AI search platform in its own right, particularly in enterprise environments where it now holds around 29% of the market. It favours well-structured, clearly written, specific content. Vague or generic website pages are less likely to be cited. That is a useful incentive to improve your content quality.

03 | Google Gemini

The Google native — indispensable if you live in Google Workspace

Google Gemini is the AI tool built into Google’s ecosystem. If your business runs on Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Drive and Meet, Gemini is increasingly embedded in those tools directly rather than sitting as a separate chat interface you have to switch to.

Google AI Pro costs around €20 per month. Google AI Ultra at approximately €250 per month includes the most powerful Gemini models and deeper Workspace integration. For most Irish SMEs, the standard paid tier or even the generous free tier is sufficient to start.

✓  Pros for marketers

  • Deep Google Workspace integration — Gemini in Gmail uses your actual emails, Gemini in Docs uses your documents, Gemini in Sheets analyses your real data
  • Real-time web access is a core feature, not an add-on — answers are consistently more current than tools without native search
  • Deep Research feature can produce comprehensive market research reports in minutes that would previously have taken hours
  • Strong multimodal capability — handles text, images, audio and video analysis
  • Excellent for international and multilingual content — useful for businesses exporting to EU markets
  • Google AI Overviews are powered by Gemini — how Gemini understands your website directly affects your visibility in Google AI search results

✗  Cons for marketers

  • Long-form writing quality lags behind Claude and ChatGPT — outputs can feel efficient but slightly flat
  • Less useful outside Google’s ecosystem — if your business uses Microsoft 365, the integration advantage disappears
  • AI Overviews can occasionally surface inaccurate information with apparent confidence — always verify
  • Google’s data use policies are a legitimate concern for businesses handling sensitive client information

★  Best used for

  • Competitive and market research — Gemini’s web access and Deep Research tools are strong for market intelligence
  • Summarising and working with existing Google Docs, reports and Drive content
  • Translating or adapting marketing content for non-English-speaking markets
  • Analysing data in Google Sheets using plain-English questions
  • Understanding and improving your visibility in Google AI Overviews
  • Creating image assets using Imagen for social media or presentation materials

AI search visibility note: Gemini powers Google AI Overviews, which now appear in over 70% of informational search queries (Semrush, 2026). Gemini favours website content over other source types (52% of local citations come from websites) and Google Business Profile data. Optimising for Gemini is not optional if you want to appear in Google’s AI results.

04 | Perplexity AI

The research engine — built for finding verified information fast

Perplexity is the tool most people have not tried yet, and the one I recommend most often for a specific type of task. It was built from the ground up as a search and research tool, not a general-purpose AI assistant. Every answer it gives comes with cited sources — you can see exactly where the information came from and go there directly to verify it.

Perplexity Pro costs around €17 per month (less on annual billing) and offers unlimited searches — a genuine advantage over tools that throttle usage behind message limits when you are deep in a research task.

✓  Pros for marketers

  • Every answer is cited — you can verify sources immediately, making outputs trustworthy enough to use professionally
  • Real-time web access is the core product — Perplexity always knows what happened this week
  • Excellent for competitor research — see what competitors are saying and what third parties say about them
  • Unlimited searches on the Pro plan — no frustrating message limits cutting you off mid-project
  • Very useful for testing your own AI citation visibility — because it shows sources clearly, you can see exactly what is and is not being cited about your business
  • Strong for understanding how your sector is described and framed in AI-generated answers

✗  Cons for marketers

  • Not a creative writing tool — outputs are functional and informative but not polished or persuasive
  • Limited for long-form content generation — use it to research and brief, then draft in Claude or ChatGPT
  • Smaller overall user base than ChatGPT or Gemini — less commercially significant as an AI search platform for buyers
  • No image generation capability
  • Interface is more spartan — some users find it less intuitive than ChatGPT or Gemini

★  Best used for

  • Competitor research — analysing competitor positioning, messaging and online presence
  • Market research and industry analysis for strategy and planning
  • Fact-checking content before publication — verify statistics, claims and references
  • Monitoring how your sector is described and who is cited in AI answers
  • Testing your own AI citation visibility to identify gaps
  • Researching content topics by finding what questions buyers are actually asking

AI search visibility note: Perplexity is the most transparent of all five tools about what it cites. Crucially, only 11% of domains are cited by both ChatGPT and Perplexity — appearing here requires different signals than appearing in ChatGPT. Perplexity draws heavily on review platforms, community sources and specialist content, not just your website.

05 | Microsoft Copilot

The Office companion — best for businesses inside Microsoft 365

Microsoft Copilot is the AI layer built into Microsoft 365 — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. If your business uses Microsoft software as its daily operating environment, Copilot is not really a separate tool to evaluate. It is a feature that has been embedded into the tools you are already using.

Copilot is available free as a standalone tool with GPT-4 level capability. For Microsoft 365 Business users, Copilot Pro is available as an add-on at approximately €25 per user per month and provides the deeper integration into Office applications that makes it genuinely valuable.

✓  Pros for marketers

  • Native integration with Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams — the only AI tool that works directly inside Microsoft documents
  • Summarises emails and Teams meeting transcripts automatically — a significant time-saver for busy teams
  • Excel integration is strong — ask plain-English questions about your own spreadsheet data
  • For Microsoft 365 users, it is the most cost-effective AI option — capability added to tools you already pay for
  • Good for formal internal business communications — professional emails, meeting summaries and reports
  • Data remains within your Microsoft environment, which addresses some data security concerns

✗  Cons for marketers

  • Largely irrelevant if your business uses Google Workspace — the integration advantage disappears entirely
  • Creative and marketing content quality is not as strong as ChatGPT or Claude — it is a productivity tool first
  • The standalone version without Microsoft 365 is less compelling than competitors at the same price point
  • Smaller AI search user base — less commercially significant for businesses trying to be found by buyers through AI
  • Less flexible for non-Microsoft marketing workflows

★  Best used for

  • Drafting, editing and summarising documents directly inside Word
  • Meeting summaries from Teams calls — capturing actions, decisions and key points automatically
  • Email drafting in Outlook — particularly for formal business correspondence
  • Analysing spreadsheet data in Excel without needing to write formulas
  • Creating presentation outlines in PowerPoint from text briefs
  • Internal communications, HR documents and business reports

AI search visibility note: Copilot has a relatively small share of the consumer AI search market. However, it is used heavily inside enterprise environments, which means for businesses selling to large organisations, appearing in Copilot-powered results can still be commercially relevant — particularly for B2B sales.

The Recommended AI Stack for Irish SME Marketing Teams

Rather than telling you to pick one tool, here is how I suggest thinking about it depending on your situation and budget.

Starting out with a tight budget

Begin with the free tiers of Claude and Gemini. Claude’s free tier is generous for writing tasks. Gemini’s free tier is useful for research and, if you use Google Workspace, already embedded in the tools you work with. Use Perplexity’s free tier (limited to five searches per day) for competitor and market research. Do not pay for anything until you have tested all three for two weeks and identified the one you reach for consistently. Then invest in one paid subscription.

The best single subscription for marketing

Pay for Claude Pro (€20/month). It produces the highest quality marketing content — blog posts, website copy, case studies and proposals — of any tool available. Use the free tiers of ChatGPT and Gemini for tasks where they add specific value: social media and brainstorming on ChatGPT, real-time research on Gemini.

If your business runs on Microsoft 365

Microsoft Copilot Pro is likely the most cost-effective starting point because it improves tools your team already uses every day. Add a Claude Pro subscription if you need higher quality long-form content for your website and marketing.

Comprehensive coverage for a small marketing team

The power combination in 2026 is: ChatGPT Plus + Claude Pro + Perplexity Pro — approximately €57 per month in total. This gives you the best social media and creative tool (ChatGPT), the best long-form writing tool (Claude) and the best research and fact-checking tool (Perplexity). Add Google AI Pro if your business is heavily Google Workspace-based.

If AI citation visibility is a business priority

You need to understand how all five tools describe your business — not just one. The same content can be highly cited in Perplexity, partially referenced in ChatGPT and completely absent from Copilot, because each tool uses different signals and sources. A structured AI Growth Audit will show you exactly where you stand across all five platforms and what needs to change.

The Marketing Dimension You Cannot Afford to Ignore

Most of this article has focused on AI tools as productivity aids — writing faster, researching better, getting more done. That is genuinely valuable. But there is a second dimension that is becoming equally important commercially.

The AI tools reviewed here are the same platforms your potential customers are using to find and evaluate suppliers. According to a March 2026 analysis of 680 million AI citations, 73% of B2B buyers now use AI tools in their purchase research. AI search traffic converts at 14.2% compared to Google organic search’s 2.8% — more than five times the conversion rate.

That means appearing in AI-generated recommendations is not an interesting trend to monitor. It is a commercial priority to act on.

And yet only 22% of marketers currently track their AI visibility, and fewer than 26% plan to create content specifically to improve it. That gap is an opportunity — available right now to any Irish business willing to take it seriously.

73% — of B2B buyers now use AI tools in their purchase research (Averi / Loganix, March 2026)

14.2% — conversion rate for AI search traffic vs 2.8% for Google organic — a 5x difference

22% — of marketers currently track their AI citation visibility

11% — of domains are cited by both ChatGPT and Perplexity — you need to be visible in both, not just one

The critical insight is that different AI tools cite entirely different sources. ChatGPT shows only 6.5% URL overlap with Google’s top 10 results. Perplexity shows 43.5% alignment. A business can rank on page one of Google and still be absent from every AI-generated recommendation — which is where growing numbers of buyers are now starting their research.

This is where SEO, AEO and GEO work together — not as three separate projects, but as a coordinated strategy for making your business the most credible, most citable answer across all the platforms your buyers use.

What Not to Do

  • Do not subscribe to all five tools at once. Start with one or two, use them daily for two weeks and add more only when you have a specific task the others do not handle well.
  • Do not publish AI first drafts without human review. The gap between a raw AI output and polished, accurate, on-brand content is significant. The editing is where the value is created.
  • Do not assume creating more AI content automatically improves your AI search visibility. These are separate things requiring separate strategies.
  • Do not treat your AI subscription as a replacement for strategic thinking. AI speeds up execution. It does not replace the thinking about what to create, who to target and what message will land.
  • Do not use free tiers for sensitive client information, confidential pricing data or legally sensitive material. Read the data policies for whatever tier you are using.
  • Do not check your AI visibility once and assume nothing has changed. AI answers update continuously. Monitoring needs to be ongoing, not occasional.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ChatGPT still the best AI tool in 2026?

ChatGPT remains the most widely used tool with around 68% of global AI chatbot usage. For versatility, social media content and creative tasks, it is hard to beat. But it is no longer the strongest tool for every task. Claude produces higher quality long-form writing. Perplexity is better for research with cited sources. Gemini is more useful inside Google Workspace. The best approach is to use ChatGPT as a default and reach for other tools where they add specific value.

Which AI tool is best for writing marketing content?

Claude is the strongest choice for long-form marketing content — blog posts, case studies, website copy, proposals and buyer guides. ChatGPT is better for shorter, more creative outputs — social media posts, ad copy, email subject lines and brainstorming. Having access to both covers virtually all marketing writing needs.

Is there a free AI tool good enough for business marketing?

Yes. Claude, Gemini and Perplexity all have free tiers that are genuinely useful. Microsoft Copilot is free as a standalone tool. The main limitations are message volume and access to the most capable models. For daily professional use, a paid plan at around €20 per month is worthwhile. For occasional use, free tiers are sufficient.

Does using AI tools help my business appear in AI search results?

Not directly. Using AI tools to create content is a productivity decision. Appearing in AI search results is a visibility strategy that requires specific work on website content, digital consistency, third-party mentions, reviews and structured data. An AI Growth Audit will show you exactly where your business stands and what to prioritise.

How much should an Irish SME budget for AI tools?

A practical starting budget is €20 per month for one primary tool. A comprehensive marketing stack — ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Perplexity Pro — costs around €57 per month and covers virtually all business marketing needs. If your team uses Microsoft 365, Copilot Pro at €25 per user may deliver better value than a separate ChatGPT subscription. Most businesses find that one well-chosen paid subscription combined with free tiers for secondary tasks is the most cost-effective approach.

Can Agile Digital Strategy help me use AI more effectively in my marketing?

Yes. We provide AI Growth Audits, SEO, AEO and GEO strategy and practical AI implementation support for Irish businesses. Whether you want to improve your content quality, your AI search visibility or both, get in touch →
